Mercy Johnson is originally from Okene Local Government in Kogi State, Nigeria but was born in Lagos State to a former Naval Officer, Daniel Johnson, and his beloved wife Elizabeth.
She is the 4th child in a family of 7.
Mercy Johnson received her primary school education at Nigerian Navy Primary School in Lagos State, Nigeria, where she acquired her First School Leaving Certificate.

She received her West African Senior School Certificate after completing her primary education at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Portharcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
Mercy Johnson decided to join the Nigerian movie industry also known as Nollywood professionally in 2004.
On August 27, 2011, she exchanged vows with Prince Odianosen Okojie and the marriage is graced with four wonderful children.
She won Best Supporting Actress at the 2009 African Movie Awards for her performance in the film “Live to Remember” in 2009.
She won Best Actress at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2013 for her role in the comedy film Dumebi the Dirty Girl.
She was named Google’s most searched Nigerian celebrity in December 2011, a position she also retained in 2012.
On April 1, 2017, she was assigned as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi state governor on entertainment, arts and culture.
She was suspended by Nollywood’s movie marketers due to her high demands for every movie role in November 3, 2013.
The suspension was removed on March 4, 2014, after the actress apologized.
In October 2019, she signed a sponsorship deal with Chi Limited’s Prime brand, Hollandia Evap Milk.
